Seasiders gain a point on their travels

Felixstowe & Walton United will feel a little disappointed to only pick up one point on the road at Tilbury on Saturday, The Seasiders had plenty of chances in the game to have chalked up their second win on the bounce, but in the end had to settle for a share of the spoils following a 1-1 draw.

Felixstowe welcomed back captain Dan Davis after his two match suspension, with George Clarke returning after injury in the week that he signed on a permanent deal with the club.

It was the visitors who took control of the game early on, finding plenty of space in the final third and creating a hatful of good chances. Miles Powell will wonder how his name did not appear on the scoresheet, smashing the crossbar with a pile driver from the edge of the box, and seeing another well taken effort thump the upright post with the home goalkeeper well beaten.

The home side took the lead on 56 minutes, David Knight finding the bottom corner of the net from the penalty spot after being upended by Callum Bennett. For a while it was The Dockers who were on the front foot, although Danny Crump in the Seasiders goal was on good form to deny the hosts going further ahead.

Felixstowe were still creating chances with Armani Schaar, George Clarke and Jack Newman all looking good on the ball, and it was Newman who scored the equaliser on 70 minutes, finding himself in acres of space just inside the box, before setting himself up for an excellent finish.

There were a few nervous moments towards the end as both sides looked for a winning goal, Tilbury did have the ball in the net in injury time but the flag had long been raised for offside.

Seasiders boss Stuart Boardley was happy with the draw, saying after the match. “We are not too despondent, look how far we have come, a few weeks ago we would have gone on to concede two or three more goals after going one down at a place like this” he went on to say. “We found the character to come back and get the goal, and after that I felt there was only going to be one winner”

Felixstowe goal scorer Jack Newman also spoke after the game and was clearly delighted with his equaliser. “Everyone was shouting at me to shoot! but I took my time, gained my composure and slotted it in” He continued. “It was bittersweet really as we really should have collected the three points, but we came off knowing we had done all we could have done so I guess we have to be happy with that”

The Seasiders now have two homes games to look forward to, starting with in-form Dereham Town next Saturday, followed by big-spending Romford on 7th December.
