U14 Red win 6-3 against Ipswich Phoenix
Felixstowe & Walton Utd U14 Red 6 v 3 Ipswich Phoenix U14
Goals galore at Deben Sports Field this morning, as the Seasiders enjoyed home advantage for the first time this season.
During the first half we dominated possession of the ball and played some very good football, but the form of the opposition goalkeeper and a combination of bad luck and poor finishing left the Reds supporters wondering if it would be one of those days.
Our midfield of Sankerman, George and Charlie O, revelled in the space they were allowed, and intelligently supplied our front three of Jake, Nartey and Matt, who were enjoying themselves. Jack R. was pushing forward from left back linking up well with Jacob and then seconds later making a goal line clearance at our end as Phoenix threatened on the break.
It was not until the 20thminute that we finally managed to beat the Phoenix keeper when Nartey fired home a loose ball after Matt had hit the post. 1-0
Nine minutes later, Charlie O jinked forward, fired in from distance, the keeper could only parry the effort and Jake tucked it in from a tight angle. 2-0.
Sankerman and Matt then combined very well down the right, Matts’ cross found Jake driving into the 6 yard box from his left wing position, and it was 3-0.
Just before the half time whistle was blown, Phoenix were gifted a goal as our defence dallied on the ball.
H.T. 3-1.
The second half would prove to be a slightly more even affair. We increased our lead to 4-1 within 2 mins of the restart as a Seasiders cross was turned into his own net by an unfortunate Phoenix defender.
Within a minute, a strong swift break out from the visitors saw them pull one back. 4-2.
Courtesy of Jakes assist, Nartey then knocked in his second of the game. 5-2.
On 12 minutes, with both our central defenders up for a corner, Phoenix once again punished us on the counter. 5-3. Then they hit our post!
Anything other than a Seasiders win would surely be a travesty.
The Phoenix keeper and his post kept us out, Seb hit the bar from a corner, but finally, order was restored when Sankerman weaved in from the left, fed Jack, who finished well.
Full Time 6-3.
Man Of The Match – Jake, who had an excellent game, being both provider and scorer.
Interesting test next week, when 1stDiv. Needham Market Phoenix visit us for a Cup Tie.
Good Luck to all the squad members who will be acting as ball boys at Portman Road next Tuesday when the Tractor Boys entertain Middlesbrough.
