Stuart Boardley reflects on another vital victory

Felixstowe & Walton Utd secured their second three point haul against Barking in five weeks to move up to eighth in the Isthmian North. With travel chaos en route causing the kick off to be delayed 90 minutes, the Seasiders showed no signs of letting the four and a half hour journey impact their performance and dominated the first half. Josh Hitter fired in the opener on 26 minutes and the game really should have been put to bed by half time with Henry Barley and Billy Holland both being denied. Dual-registered forward Kieran Twinn doubled the advantage on 55 minutes after Ollie Canfer had won the ball cleverly from the goalkeeper! A late consolation penalty scored by Barney Williams for the home side made for a slightly nervy finish but the away side comfortably stayed in control to set things up nicely for Tuesday’s massive home local derby against Stowmarket Town.

Seasiders Manager Stuart Boardley spoke after the game. “I felt we controlled large parts of the game, we started relatively well despite the long journey, which was a complete disaster! Barking were very direct, in terms of their running and playing on the counter attack, they did cause us a few problems on occasions but I felt once we scored our first goal we grew into the game and dominated the possession for large spells. We deservedly got the second goal, albeit, let’s be honest, there was probably a foul on their keeper, but before that we had missed two or three absolutely guilt edged chances so should have wrapped the game up anyway. The performance was pleasing up until that point but we then conceded a really sloppy goal that puts us under pressure for the back end of the game, we were absolutely comfortable in the game, keeping the ball, and a sloppy pass at the back allowed them to nick in and unfortunately we gave away the penalty from that resultant break. It was backs to the wall for the last ten minutes of the game when they were throwing bodies forward and putting us under pressure. I thought the performance was good generally, we played some good football, and it was pleasing for Kieran Twinn and Josh Hitter to get their goals, Kieran has worked really hard for us when he has played and Josh has been out injured for a long time and he played well today in a good, solid team performance where we moved the ball around well and scored a couple of good goals”
