It is always disappointing to see a season come to an end, but what a way for the under 18's to sign off, with a comprehensive 4-0 win at Ipswich Wanderers.
A second half hat-trick from in-form striker Jake Preston encapsulated a great display from the youngsters after Lewis Smy grabbed the opener.
It was the end of an era for five of the 16 lads named in the squad as they will be too old to play next season. Tyler Howell, Lewis Smy, Matt Hazell, Dan Horton and Lewis Hutchings all had a massive part to play in a season that's gone from strength to strength under the guiding hand of Aren Howell and his support team.
It was Smy who grabbed the opener via a deflection which was well deserved for the Seasiders after Preston, Hazell and Joe Hunt saw previous efforts denied.
At the other end it was the usual resolute defending in the first half that kept Wanderers at bay, breaching the back four just once with Oliver Fisher equal to the challenge, tipping the ball over for a corner.
In the second period the Seasiders went up a couple of gears and Preston turned on the style with devastating finishing. Howell's precision pass set Preston away for the first to give the home side keeper Pacey Laughlin no chance. Joe Hunt had two efforts which went narrowly wide, but Preston took his second, controlling first time and blasting it past Laughlin.
The Wanderers defence had no answer for the slick passing football that the Seasiders produced in an excellent 45 minutes football with wave after wave of attacks that could have easily doubled the final score.
Fisher rarely had anything to do other than enjoy the singing behind his goal as the visitors camped in the opposition half. Preston completed his hat-trick and his 18th goal in 20 games with an assist from Smy showing determination to shrug off defenders before producing a cool finish.
The only sour note of the evening was for Louis Donovan-Perry, who picked up a nasty mouth injury early in the first half, which hopefully is not too serious. serious.
Big congratulations to the management who have produced a side capable of playing fast flowing quality football which all bodes well for next 2018/19 with so many youngsters coming through the ranks.
