U14 Reds Win Local Derby
Felixstowe & Walton Utd U14 Red 5 v 3 Trimley Red Devils U14
Quarter Final stage of this seasons U14s Plate competition gave us a local derby. I guess it was a typical derby affair, with the result being more important than the performance.
Trimley play their football in Div 4, and they came to the Felixstowe Academy pitch determined to ruffle the feathers of the Div 2 leaders.
The visitors must be praised for their work rate and commitment throughout the 70 minutes, as a result The Seasiders never really got into their stride.
Felixstowe always had the greater goal threat, but with a combination of poor finishing, poor decision making and the form of the visitors goalkeeper, Trimley remained in the game until the final whistle.
On 10 min. Jack R. spread the play wide to Nartey on the right, his cross was controlled well in the box by Matt, who turned and fired home. 1-0. Within minutes, a Red Devil’s long ball was not dealt with by the Seasiders defence, and it was 1-1.
In the 17th min Nartey, hugging the right touchline, was sent away, he went past two defenders and finished well. 2-1 and two minutes later Matt has the ball at his feet on the right hand side of the penalty area, his cross/shot sailed over the keepers head. 3-1.
On the half hour mark, Matt again, produced a mazy dribble and finish . 4-1. Probably fair to say, that it was more due to individual efforts, that we ended the first half 4-1 up, rather than any great cohesive teamwork.
The second half was rather forgettable from a Seasiders point of view. We did increase our lead to 5-1, as Charlie G fired in, beating the Trimley keeper at his near post, from the right side of the penalty box.
The Red Devil’s did not give up, and had success against us on the break, scoring twice in quick succession to give themselves hope at 5-3.
However, that was the final score, and The Seasiders can look forward to a semi final on March 9th versus Ipswich Phoenix.
