On The Up!
There’s so much to be positive about at the Goldstar Ground. Sometimes it’s easy to forget how far the club has come in such a short time.
For so many years, we talked about our troubles and how ‘hard done by’ we felt, held back with a fenced-off corner of a recreation ground, left behind by countless other local clubs and struggling for any support from anywhere in the town, business community or local authorities apart from the diehards who worked miracles to keep the club alive and set the foundations that have since been built upon.
How times change!
We all know the huge strides made on the pitch over recent seasons that have helped our average attendance rise from 70 to 400+, as well as promotion for the Reserve side, a thriving junior section and the birth of an academy.
We’ve also achieved quite a bit facility-wise in the last couple of years!....
- Clubhouse featuring 6 changing rooms including 2 dedicated junior rooms, function room, kitchen & snack bar, cellar & bar, meeting room, storage, laundry, offices, state-of-the-art surround sound & screen system and a 300% increase in toilet provision including 2 accessible rooms and baby changing facilities.
- Pitchside events area.
- Players' tunnel.
- Club shop.
- Defibrillator.
- Storage container.
- Upgraded PA system.
- Turnstile block.
Plus all this in the last 6 months: (!)
- Additional 100-seater grandstand.
- Hospitality lounge.
- New hardstanding areas.
- Upgraded perimeter barriers.
- Boundary fencing.
- Additional car parking.
Future plans include:
- Resurfaced car park.
- Upgraded dugouts.
- Clubhouse extension to more than double the size of the function room & bar.
- 3G surface.
Together with a small army of new volunteers, a thriving events calendar, a fan base that continues to astound us and with the backing of the community, local authorities and businesses throughout the town, it’s been quite a journey recently!
