Under 14s Red win to make the Final
Ipswich Phoenix U14 0 v 1 Fxt & Walton Utd U14 Red
Semi Final day in the Suffolk Youth League Plate competition for 2018-19.
Home advantage certainly was that, as the Sproughton Sports Club pitch had a substantial slope on it.
Despite their lowly position in the Div 2 league table, Ips Phoenix were up for the fight, and they gave The Seasiders little time to settle on the ball or to get their passing game going. As a result, it was a rather scrappy game in testing conditions.
Fxt were awarded a penalty on 8 minutes, when Nartey latched on to a through ball, and was caught by the onrushing keeper.
Jake stepped forward, but powered the ball over the bar. 0-0.
Oscar received the congratulations from his team mates a few minutes later, as he thwarted a certain Phoenix goal by bravely making a double save at the feet of their striker.
35 mins – H.T. 0-0.
The second half continued in much the same vein, with Fxt just lacking a bit of composure in front of goal. To be fair, Ipswich Phoenix had a very capable goalkeeper keeping us out, when we did get a sniff. The threatened rain arrived, surely not extra time and penalties?
Another corner to Fxt on 55 mins taken by Matt, dropped into the 6 yard box, amongst the flying legs, captain Seb kept his cool and knocked it in. 1-0.
We were unable to add to our tally, but remained firm at the back, to see out the 70 mins, and book our place in Finals Day.
F.T. 1-0.
A great result in difficult conditions, well done boys. Special mention for the young referee who performed very well, showing good positioning and authority.
Coach Jason awarded MOM to Harry, who has adapted superbly to his new right back position this season.
